" The biggest impact ISA has had on me is developing my leadership skills. My leadership skills have been highly tuned at ISA. My experiences at ISA, particularly in working with other volunteer leaders, have provided me with an enhanced set of skills that I couldn’t have gained on the job. When I talk to engineering managers at our Houston offices, I explain to them if they will give me one of their engineers to serve on the board, we will make them leaders. When I was a new leader, I attended a lot of leader meetings and I was fortunate enough to receive excellent leader training. "

“ The section’s technical meetings helped me grow tremendously from a technical point of view in my new profession, especially considering I came from a ChemE background with very limited instrumentation and control knowledge. After a few years of being heavily involved in my ISA section, I attended a fall leaders meeting, and that is where I got connected into ISA’s ChemPID. Being a part of a division has helped me interact with automation professionals all over the globe!.”

“ I have met many clients, colleagues, and friends at ISA events. It is great to be able to interact with experts in the same field as myself. Another benefit has been the sharing of information across the various generations within the industry. With many people retiring, it is important to capture the knowledge and insights of experienced professionals.”

" The number one benefit of getting involved in ISA is the incredible friendships that you make and maintain. Next comes career development, leadership development, and the opportunity to help others. ISA has made me a better person. "

ISA Standards

Practical Solutions from Industry Experts

What is a Standard?

Imagine moving into a new house and going to plug your refrigerator into the wall – only to find that the plug doesn’t match the outlet! Electrical standards set decades ago ensure that won’t happen. And standards today allow you to get your film developed anywhere in the world, or make a phone call from here to China. An ounce in North Carolina is the same as an ounce in Nebraska, and you can hook up almost any kind of stereo component from any electronics store.

ISA Standards help automation professionals streamline processes and improve industry safety, efficiency, and profitability. Over 150 standards reflect the expertise from over 4,000 industry experts around the world. Since 1949, ISA has been recognized as the expert source for automation and control systems consensus industry standards.
