Abstract:
To many automation engineers, AI feels like a buzzword, especially considering recent studies showing up to 95% of projects fail to yield measurable business value. This high failure rate is a direct rerun of the ‘pilot purgatory’ that plagued early digital transformation efforts, where scaling was impossible due to fragmented, siloed, and non-contextualized data.
Just as in many machine learning efforts where 80% of the work was in data janitorial tasks, a successful industrial AI implementation is anchored on effective data contextualization to establish a robust industrial knowledge graph. This session cuts through the hype to provide an engineering-focused rationale for moving from pilot to production.
We will highlight the unique complexities of industrial data—from time series to P&IDs—and illustrate why a contextualized foundation is the single most critical step. Finally, we showcase the concrete benefits (such as reduced downtime and “autonomous” operations) achieved by applying specialized AI agents onto a unified industrial knowledge graph, using real-world examples to prove that sustained value realization is achievable.
