Abstract:

Recently published standard IEEE 802.3cg commonly known as Advanced Physical Layer will have a significant impact on how and where Ethernet networks will be used.

This presentation will describe how the new 2-wire powered Ethernet technology works and then describe how it can be used in a wide range of industries from hydrocarbons, building automation, automotive/transportation and many more in both new and existing installations.

Ian has been involved in the automation industry since the 1980’s and was a ‘participant’ in the “Fieldbus wars” during the 1990’s. He has been engaged in the development and promotion of field level digital communications since that time including co-authoring a book on Foundation Fieldbus available from ISA Publishing. Ian is a regular columnist with Control magazine discussing industrial wireless networking issues. When not writing columns, he is involved in the development of standards serving as a member of ISA’s Standards & Practices Board as well as international chairperson of IEC SC65C Industrial networks. Ian’s currently a Solutions Architect for Willowglen Systems.
