SUMMARY:Transformational Changes in Automation: Focus on Open Process Automation
DESCRIPTION:Abstract: \nThe hypothesis that transformation change is underway in process automation can be confirmed with the following evidence:\n• ISA’s new Smart Manufacturing and IIoT Division\n• Publication of Version 2.1 of the Open Process Automation Standard (O-PAS™) and the startup of O-PAS™ conformance certification\n• NAMUR Open Architecture and Module Type Package \nThe first part of this talk will overview these trends and discuss ISA’s role in Digital Transformation. \nThe second part of the talk will focus on Open Process Automation. We will discuss the status of the O-PAS™ standard and its associated conformance certification process. Also\, information on four end user company driven O-PAS™ system prototyping projects will be presented. \nPresenter: \nDon Bartusiak\nPresident\, Collaborative Systems Integration\nCo-Chair\, Open Process Automation Forum of The Open Group \nDon Bartusiak is President of Collaborative Systems Integration\, an Austin-based startup providing systems integration services and software products for Open Process Automation (O-PAS™) based systems. \nIn Oct 2020\, he retired from ExxonMobil Research and Engineering as Chief Engineer\, Process Control. He has 33 years of experience in process control with ExxonMobil\, and 7 years of experience in process development research with Bethlehem Steel. At ExxonMobil\, he has been a process control application engineer working on artificial intelligence\, linear and nonlinear model predictive control\, and real-time optimization at facilities in the U.S. and U.K in central engineering offices and in manufacturing. From the mid-1990s\, he held supervisory or senior technical positions with responsibility for instrumentation\, process analyzers\, control systems\, and control applications at facilities in Texas and Virginia. From 2000 to 2002\, he was Lecturer and Adjunct Professor of Chemical Engineering at Rice University. \nDon received a B.S. (ChemE) from the University of Pennsylvania and M.S. and Ph.D (ChemE) degrees from Lehigh University. \n \nINSTRUCTIONS: \nDownload and install Zoom software if necessary \nThe day before the meeting you will receive an email with the meeting ID and password \nYou may join the meeting starting at approximately 11:00 am for socializing and announcements \nThe presentation will begin at 11:30 am
