SUMMARY:Camouflage – Poor Practices in HMI Design
DESCRIPTION:Abstract: \nCamouflage is the art of making things more difficult to see. Surprisingly\, the principles of camouflage can be found in many HMI practices being touted today as “improvements” over past practices. Such poor designs are easily found on the web\, in magazine articles\, in vendor promotional materials\, and in delivered work products of graphics designers. In this talk\, examples of such practices will be shown\, and contrasted to clean\, clear\, crisp\, and legible visualizations that would provide operators with a much clearer understanding of process conditions. \nPresenter: \n \nBill Hollifield \nBill is an ISA Fellow with over 40 years of industrial engineering\, control\, and consulting experience. He wrote two books – The Alarm Management Handbook and The High Performance HMI Handbook\, and participates in the ISA-18.2 (Alarm Mgt) and 101 (HMI) standards committees. Bill has (finally) semi-retired. He’s a pilot and built his own plane – an RV-12. \nInstructions: \nDownload and install Zoom software if necessary \nRegister using the form below. \nThe day before the meeting you will receive an email with the meeting ID and password \nYou may join the meeting starting at approximately 11:00 am for socializing and announcements \nThe presentation will begin at 11:30 am \nNo Charge For ISA Members!
