Labor Day weekend, the unofficial end of summer is here, but that does not mean summer is over in Houston! One only needs to walk outside to know that the heat and humidity will be with us for a few more weeks, if not months!
Earlier this year at the 2018 Spring Leaders Meeting in Raleigh, NC the ISA Executive Board approved new vision and mission statements. ISA’s new vision is to: Create a better world through automation and the Society’s new mission statement is to: Advance technical competence by connecting the automation community to achieve operational excellence. I hope you agree that these new statements are short, aspirational, and memorable!
As the largest local section of ISA, your ISA Houston Section is working hard to help the Society realize these goals. Our annual CSE PE Study Group, lead by Education Chair Magda Moreno, started meeting August 22nd and will continue for 10 weeks leading up to the exam date, October 26th. This is a service the Houston Section has provided to its members for several years now, with great results!
Section Program co-chairs Bridget Fitzpatrick, Jim Stietenroth and Minela Bajrovic have been working to obtain an excellent lineup of presenters for our monthly technical programs, beginning with Gerald Wilbanks’ August presentation on “To Credential or Not To Credential”. Check the Events tab for upcoming meeting topics at http://www.houstonisa.org/events/.
From October 30th through November 1st the Houston Section will be the host section for the 2018 Process Control & Safety Symposium and Exhibition (PCS), sponsored by the Process Measurement and Control, Safety and Security, Chemical and Petroleum, Communications, Education, Pulp and Paper, and Management Divisions of ISA. This annual world-class program, exhibit, and networking event will be held at The Westin Houston, Memorial City (945 Gessner Road, Houston, TX 77024) and you do not want to miss it! More information is available at www.isa.org.
Many of your Houston Section board members will be traveling to Montreal, Quebec, Canada October 12-15 to attend the Society’s Annual Leadership Conference, followed by 2018 ISA Montreal, a new multi-dimensional automation track experience, sponsored jointly by the ISA Food and Pharmaceuticals, Automatic Controls and Robotics, Construction and Design, and Process Measurement and Control Divisions. A highlight of this year’s Annual Leadership Conference will be the recognition of our own Herman E. Storey during the Honors & Awards Gala as a 2018 ISA Fellow. Contratulations, Herman!
The Expo & Chili Cook Off 2018 is set for Thursday, November 8th at Sawyer Yards (8000 Edwards Street, Houston, TX 77007) from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. This is a new venue necessitated by the closure of the Farm & Ranch Club after Hurricane Harvey. It was utilized for the first time in March of this year for the Cajun Cook Off & Table Top Show with great success. Mark your calendar for November 8th and join us for a good time!
The Section is working continuously to improve our website and we hope you are finding the information you need. If not please let us know!
