ISA Presentations held at Lamar Colleges in Southeast Texas!

Dear ISA Members:

As District 7 Student Section Liaison I wanted to lend a hand in the Southeast Texas area where Student Sections are strong at some schools but not as active in others.Lamar Beaumont has an ISA Student Section but it has not been very active for a number of reasons. The key Michael Bellow of El Paso Gas felt was to rejuvenate the sections make sure they have a Board of Directors and a willing Faculty Advisor and some method of communicating to the students so that they may participate in activities such at International Student Competitions and other events available to them through membership with Instrumentation Systems & Automation Society.

Mike Bellow was kind enough to set up the presentations at both Lamar Beaumont and Lamar Port Arthur Colleges. Attendance was quite good at both and we are sure that is not just because Mike was gracious enough to order pizzas for both meetings. The ISA Career Film was shown and renewed Board of Director was put in place at both locations along with the key position of Webmaster as a Board role so this may improve communications with students a great deal.

A few photos of the presentations are provided below.

If you would like to assist in supporting the efforts in the Beaumont or Port Arthur area either to give a generic presentation, to be a mentor to the students with your particular field of interest or if you would like to help in any way with keeping these fine student sections active please contact me.We could certainly use some help.

It is unfortunate that the Southeast Section regular membership is on the downswing and they are not as strong as in years past but it is the students as we all know which will grow that regular section in the future. We need to support these students and provide guidance as they enter the world of ever changing and advancing technologies.

Special thanks to Mike Bellow/El Paso Natural Gas, Ron Perry/ISA Faculty Advisor at Lamar Beaumont, Robert Peeler/Faculty Advisor at Lamar Port Arthur and anyone else who coordinated these meetings. We appreciate the opportunity to explain benefits to ISA membership.

Respectfully,

Mary Cousins
District 7 Student Section Liaison
