TOPIC:
Fuzzy Logic ? Technology, Control Application and Software Program
SPEAKER: Ravi Jaisinghani, Principal, Intelligent Optimization Group
Fuzzy Logic is a mathematical system that accommodates the Non-digital (Yes/No)
Gray area with Degrees of Truth. Concepts that cannot be expressed as "true" or
"false" but rather as "partially true". Fuzzy logic is widely used in machine
control, but its application to chemical process control has been quite slow.
This presenttaion discusses the Fuzzy Control Technology and its recent
application success in the control of azeotropic distillation towers. Demo using
a Multivariable Fuzzy Logic Control program, Z-Way? is shown to illustrate the
simple fill-in-the-blanks type configuration versus the detailed dynamic model
approach used in conventional Multivariable Predictive controllers.
BIOGRAPHY OF SPEAKER
Ravi Jaisinghani is the principal of Intelligent Optimization Group, Houston, Texas. Before entering the consulting profession, Ravi was with ABB Industrial Systems, Inc. as the Director of their Advanced Automation Solutions group. His background includes supervisory and technical positions with PetroCanada and Exxon Chemical Canada, and over 30 years of experience in the automation of refining, petrochemical, chemical, agrichem and steel plants.
