Advanced Design and SIL Verification (EC54)

October 25, 2023 - October 26, 2023

Length : 2 Days

CEU Credits :

Course Hours : 8:00am-4:00pm (local time)

This course focuses on more detailed design issues and further hands-on examples of system analysis/modeling. Students will be better able to perform system design and analysis thus saving their companies time and money in optimizing system designs. This course will enable you to analyze any system technology and configuration to see if it will meet the required SIL (Safety Integrity Level) and determine if existing systems are safe enough, if they need to be upgraded, and whether proposed systems will meet the performance requirements. You will also be able to determine the optimum manual test interval for any system, saving your company time and money by not over- or under-testing systems.

Certificate Program: This course is required for the ISA84 Safety Instrumented Systems Certificate Program 3. You can register for the course only or for the certificate program which includes course and exam. Please send an email to info@isa.org for further requirements for the exam. ISA Course Safety Instrumented Systems-Design, Analysis, and Justification (EC50) or Safety Instrumented Systems: Design, Analysis, and Justification (EC50E) and ISA Certificate Safety Instrumented Systems Certificate Program 1 are prerequisites for Certificate Program 3. Those who successfully complete this course and pass the certificate program exam receive the designation of ISA84 SIL Verification Specialist.

Promo code is HOUS2023.

Energy Correlation and the Centertap Torus Flow Measurement System

March 6, 2024 - March 6, 2024

Event Type : PAID

Event Cost : $15 ( Discounted cost for members only: $25 )

Start : March 6, 2024

End : March 6, 2024

Time : 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM

Location : Kenexis

15995 N Barkers Lndg Rd Ste 143 Houston, TX 77079-2418,

Houston , TX - 77079-2418

United States.

Abstract:

This presentation describes an innovatively designed primary flow element and the calculation of flow by the ENERGY CORRELATION METHOD. It addresses several limitations of flow rate measurement by orifice flowmeters and other differential pressure devices. Some of those mechanical and performance limitations are; (a) maximum allowable differential pressure to limit bending of the plate; (b) requiring pseudo-fully developed velocity profile approaching the orifice plate; (c) minimum downstream straight run and distance of protruding secondary instruments downstream of the orifice plate; (d) edge sharpness of the plate bore; (e) effect of flow profile distortions on single point wall pressure taps; (f) only single phase clean fluids; (g) concentricity of the plate bore to the pipe axis; (h) long upstream-downstream meter runs; and (i) ability to perform diagnostics on the primary unit.

This presentation presents experimental data that demonstrates how an innovative design can address those limitations and achieve reliable and repeatable flow rate measurement capability by this Differential Pressure (DP) type flowmeter. This primary element can be installed to measure gas, liquid, steam, waste-water flows, and other fluids with known or predictable fluid properties (density and viscosity). With addition of two other instruments, this device can also measure multiphase fluid flows within current field accepted limits of measurement uncertainty. With addition of another DP transmitter, in the event of measurement anomaly due to changes in fluid properties, failure of mechanical setup, or instrumentation, the flow computer can alarm the operator.

Presenter:

Dave Bell – President, Bell Technologies

David (Dave) Bell has been the owner and Chief Technology Officer of Bell Technologies, LLC since its inception in 2010. He has been working with metering and control valve design, development, and sales for more than 50 years with companies such as Marathon Pipeline Co., Explorer Pipeline Co, M & J Valve Co, Daniel Systems, Puffer-Sweiven, and Precision General. In 1970, as Project Manager for Explorer Pipeline Co., Dave was instrumental in the design and installation of the pipeline stations start-ups. Dave has 11 patents to his name for new developments around flow technology and is currently a COGFM member of the API.
