We had a great start to the section year with our first general meeting at Mustang Engineering. We had a large turnout, excellent presentation, and fabulous food from Zach’s Shack Bar-B-Que. I especially enjoyed the warm peach cobbler with ice cream for dessert. Our next meeting is at the HESS Club (Houston Engineering & Scientific Society) which is in the Galleria area. If you have never been, this is a very nice marble building used by different engineering and scientific societies in Houston. They serve great food also. Be sure to RSVP for the Sept 1st meeting, you will get more out of your membership by participating and networking with your fellow section members at these general meetings. To maximize your membership, consider getting involved with some of the fun functions within the section. Look at the all the committees that are headed up by the various officers, call or email them to ask questions and join their committee to feel like you are a part of a great organization. Also, don’t forget to check out the activities and events sponsored by our subsections which are the ISA Pipeline Subsection and ISA Houston Analysis Subsection. Below are four major events coming up in the near future that you can really participate in:
This is something, you, as a member of the ISA Houston Section need to check out. You are invited to attend and participate in the free training offered by ISA during the Fall Leader’s Meeting that will be held in Houston at the Westin Galleria on Oct 2nd Saturday & Oct 3rd Sunday. During those days, you will be with fellow members from all over the world who have similar interests. Those other members pay to fly into Houston and pay for the room at the Westin. But you as a section member can simply drive over. We will even buy you lunch on both days if you introduce yourself to one of the four officers: Chan Miller, Vice-President; Ardis Bartle, Treasurer; Clifford Wuertz, Secretary; or myself, Mike Huereca, President. This is a great opportunity to learn more about ISA and how it functions at the District and International level. You can sit in any of the meetings and listen to and participate in the discussion on various topics. It is from these very meetings that ideas and input is gathered which will influence how your society functions and operates in the future.
If you like to party and dance, then we have a deal for you. The ISA Houston Section is having an After Gala Party at the Westin Galleria on the 24th Floor in the Monarch Room. We did this party last year and it was well attended and was the talk of ISA. You will meet many of the participants of the ISA Fall Leader’s Meeting from the weekend who come from all over the world at this party. We have a great DJ who knows how to keep the party going. The party is free and will start right after the ISA Honors & Awards banquet (about 9:30 pm) Monday night and go until midnight. Come check it out.
ISA is putting on a great Conference for the ISA members, ISA Automation Week. As a member of the ISA Houston Section, you will have an opportunity to volunteer your time and serve as a room monitor. This will allow you to listen in on topics of interest at no cost to the member for that day. Details will be posted on the ISA Houston Section website on how to participate in being a room monitor.
The Houston Section is working with the ChemInnovations Show as our major fund raiser for our scholarships this year. You and your co-workers are invited to attend as our guests on the exhibit floor by using the code CIHS in the registration for the event. Be sure and spread the word about this show and give them the code CIHS that gets them in for free! ($100 savings)
This is going to be an exciting year!
Best regards,
Mike Huereca
