A cable is a cable is a cable... or is it? Can you judge a cable by its cover? What goes into making a cable?

There are now a number of control networks available for both factory and process automation, and each has its own physical layer. Selecting the proper cable for your network and your particular application can save time, money, and headache. We’ll look at the specific cable requirements for FOUNDATION fieldbus, Profibus PA and DP, DeviceNet, AS-i, HART, and other protocols. We’ll review how the NEC and UL work together, and what specific electrical properties and physical properties should be considered when specifying cables.
