Thursday, 8 October
Last year, about 400 local high school and middle school students joined ISA EXPO 2008 for three hours and learned about automation and the possibilities a career in the automation field can offer. This year, an estimated 600 students are expected to be invited to partake in learning more about cool careers in automation by listening to keynote speakers, interactive displays, and more. Several sponsorship and exposure opportunities are available for organizations at this event. For more information, contact Mike Marlowe at mmarlowe@automationfederation.org.

YAPFEST is an annual event for young automation professionals (ages 18-30) taking place during ISA EXPO. In 2008, more than 250 young automation professionals and students from local Houston colleges attended the 3rd annual YAPFEST and took part in various activities, including: panel discussion on workforce development, ISA EXPO show floor tour, general networking, and more. In addition to free food and beverage, this year’s YAPFEST will also include a resume writing workshop and mock interviews.
Arrangements are met being made to provide transportation for interested students from some local-area colleges and university campuses (Student Flyer). Tuesday, 6 October
The Undergraduate Student Research Conference is a pilot program giving undergraduate students an opportunity to participate in an information exchange. Participating students will showcase their fundamental skills in a student paper competition. Students from select universities in the Mexico, Russia, and U.S., have been invited to participate and EXPO attendees are encouraged to observe the presentations.

Enhancing the three events will be a new feature on the ISA EXPO show floor, Education Alley – a dedicated exhibit for educational institutions, community colleges, and universities offering educational and training to showcase their opportunities for a career in automation.
